Well, we got blasted today with a little snow, to say the least. You'd think I was posting on The Brownstone Birding Blog or Big Spring Birds' Blog up north instead of Arkansas! Best I can tell, we got about 5". Needless to say, this put the birds into a feeding frenzy.
The snow has everything covered. You would never know it is just 13 days away from Spring. It is about 32 degrees with the wind blowing about 15 mph. The birds had only seem to have one thing in mind, "getting something to eat!"
I got a few shots of a Downy Woodpecker on the peanut feeder. Only after I downloaded the pictures from the camera did I notice something a little different. The Downy looked a little smaller than the usual ones on Woodpecker feeder.
I believe it to be a juvenile, probably a 1st year male. You can see the little patch of red starting to show on the back of his head.
The wind was gusting to 20 mph when I got this shot. He was doing everything to hang on the feeder.
Good birding and God Bless!

they really do hit the feeders when it has just snowed I have a large feeder that takes approx 20lb of feed and i have seen them clear it in 2 days
This is my first time to witness. We get snow around here only every two to three years and this is my first since I've started birding. It was fun to watch, thanks for visiting!
Hey, are they all Cardinals in that tree, WOW! That is wonderful. I've never seen so many of them at one time. Hope you are right about Spring, I can't wait. I am anxious for color and new baby critters and birds!
Oh yeah, there are Cardinals in the pic! I'm covered up with them at times, sometimes 7-8 males and 4-5 females. That day, I probably had 20 out back during the snow storm.
What's going on? You're getting snow down soth and we're having some mild winter weather up north.
Thanks for the mention and nice observations about the downy.
Larry, definitely crazy weather. It was almost 80 this past week
after getting the snow last Friday!
I saw the little fellow again today but didn't get a pic, he's for sure just getting his 'red patch'.
